« This is the Lantern Floating Ceremony that I shot on Memorial Day of May 30th, 2011. This is an annual ceremony that happens every year on Memorial Day at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu, Hawaii. It’s a beautiful ceremony that brings people together from all over the world, from all types of religion, in one place to remember those that have fallen in conflict, and to reflect and send prayers to loved ones. It is a ceremony that is all about promoting peace. The ceremony is led by Her Holiness Keishu Shinso Ito who is the spiritual head of Shinnyo-en.
I filmed this ceremony with the intent of sharing my personal experience of what I felt. I wanted people to see this as a memorable experience to the ones that attended. To the people that have never attended this ceremony, I wanted to share my experience in a beautiful way as if you were there to experience it. Words can’t express what it felt like to be out there in the waters filming this. This is one thing that you have to go out and experience for yourself.
I encourage any of you who are interested to attend next year. It’s an experience that you won’t forget and you’ll remember forever.
